My ATC wall

How do you know if you’re obsessed with something? It might take over your wall.

Yeah, I have a wall full of 2.5″ by 3.5″ colorful artwork covering my white-washed bedroom. How did that come about? Well, I was sitting on my bed one rainy, summer afternoon staring at the blank drywall in front of me.

I thought what better way to spruce up a plain, boring wall than to cover it in colorful artwork made by numerous different artists?

All my Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) were just sitting in a notebook anyway, so I thought I might as well put them to use… So I created ATC “wallpaper.”

Taping them up--it's almost complete!

And I came to find out that I make too many horizontal cards and not enough perpendicular ATCs. So next time I pull out the art supplies, I’m gonna make a couple perpendicular ATCs.

The first wall complete (just need to add the lights)

I was planning on only filling the one section of my wall, but when my sisters volunteered to let me put some of their ATCs on my wall, I knew I needed to add another section….

I’m pleased with how well I know my ATC collection. I could tell you who they’re made by and where in the country (or world) they’re made. And almost half of them are from my now-far-away friends. It makes me happy to think of them, even though I rarely get to see them since we moved.

You see, ATCs–to me–are more than some colorful scribbles on a piece of paper. They all have stories behind them. Like who made them. Why they made them. What it meant to the artist. And how I got them. See? They’re stories. Of course I like that, cause I’m a writer.

^ And finally, after hours of work... The finish product ^

I especially like my rainbow pillow (made by my amazing oldest sister) next to my art wall… I love colorful things, can you tell?

  1. Oooh!! That looks amazing, Hayley!! That last picture is my favorite – it looks like a cozy spot of inspiration where you could read, write, or doodle! I just love that! 😀

  2. I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I want to do that, but on the other hand I don’t know if I do because we just redid our room and it would kinda clash. 😦 *Sniff* I do have one question, though: how do you get down the ATCs if you want to trade them?

    • You Totally should. I don’t think it would clash, your walls are just blue, right? I think it would look awesome ;). Well… If I traded ATCs on a regular basis, that’d be a problem. But I don’t really trade that often, so I don’t have to worry about that ;). On the other hand–It would be a pretty cool way to pick an ATC to trade for, wouldn’t it? “Just pick one off the wall.”

Did you notice your card somewhere on the wall?

      • Yeah!
Oh, okay. Yeah, that would be a fun way to trade! I kinda like to keep them all in my binder, but I love the wall too!
I looked, but I couldn’t find it. 😦 It’s the apple one, right?

      • I actually didn’t trade with you during the ATC trade I hosted, I’m talking about the one you sent me with one of your letters. Megan knows where it is (you can ask her why she knows, it was a mix up :p).

    • I just got done telling Allison you should ;). She thinks it would clash with your new room…

Yuppers, I used painters tape to make sure I don’t take off my paint. One thing you have to be careful about is when you take them off the wall, be really careful when pulling the tape off the back of the card. Cause it will rip the paper if your not too careful.

Also… Did you notice a card that’s familiar hanging on the wall?

  3. That is so cool! I’ve covered my bulletin board in quotes, so maybe I’m obsessed with that. 😉 When I spotted my “Aloha” card, I almost squealed, because DUDE MY ATC IS ON YOUR WALL. 😀
